3rd General SAFERELNET Meeting
in conjunction with the
Workshop on Acceptable Safety Levels, and the
Workshop on Integration of Risk and Reliability
Copenhagen, May 19 - 21, 2003

Day 1: Monday, 19th May

Workshop on Acceptable Safety Levels

Organizing Committee V. Trbojevic
C. Bucher
R. Rackwitz
C. Guedes Soares
A. Raposo

The establishment of acceptable levels of safety are essential to a more widespread adoption of risk-based approaches to design, reassessment and life extension of structures and systems.
The essential problem between acceptable levels of safety in injury/fatality studies on one hand, and reliability assessment on the other, is in different perceptions of risk.
The objective of this workshop is to discuss approaches to establish these acceptable levels including present practice, appropriate safety differentiation, economic considerations, aspects of risk perception and normative rules.
Contributions to the following topics are invited:
 • Philosophy of tolerability of risk
 • Safety target levels
 • Unified risk criteria
