Nearshore Circulation Systems

SHORECIRC is a quasi-3D model system that uses REFDIF as wave driver, and combines a numerical solution for the depth-integrated 2D horizontal momentum balance equations with an analytical solution for the 3D current profiles. The limitations of the model exist, but the basic circulation equations are solved accurately by considering the non-linear feedback between wave-generated currents and waves that generate them. SHORECIRC is a time-domain model and computationally resource demanding.

The ISSM modeling system which is a rapid framework for evaluating nearshore waves and currents was also tested in the Portuguese coastal environment.
