Election of the CENTEC President for the period 2025-2028
The election process of the President of the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC) for the term 2025-2028 took place between November 11 and 13, 2024. Prof. Yordan Garbatov, the current President of CENTEC, was re-elected for the next 4-year period. More

Prof. Yordan Garbatov was elected president of the International Congress of Ships and Offshore Structures (ISSC), and Prof. Ângelo Teixeira, as general secretary for the 2025-2028 term. More

Research & Development

CENTEC, Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering, is a research centre of IST, recognized and funded by the Portuguese Government through the Foundation for Science and Technology of the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology, which in 2015 classified it as EXCELLENT.

CENTEC is organized in the following research groups:
 • Marine Environment
 • Marine Dynamics and Hydrodynamics
 • Marine Structures
 • Safety and Logistics of Maritime Transportation

Education

In addition to research activity, the professors of CENTEC promote the education of students in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, which is organized in the following cycles of studies:
 • Undergraduate Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
 • Masters Degree in Centre for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
 • Doctoral Programme in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
 • Advanced Training Diploma on Assessment of Risks, Safety and Reliability
