The MARSTRUCT series of Conferences had its origin in the MARSTRUCT Network of Excellence, but is aimed at becoming a series of Conferences dedicated to Marine Structures so as to allow periodic reporting and discussion of the advances in the field.

The Network of Excellence is a European Union project which permitted funding for joint research between different European groups working in the field of marine structures. It started in 2004 and involves 33 partners including University Departments, Research Centres and Classification Societies, which exchange research personnel and conduct joint research on various topics related with Marine Structures.

In 2007, the first MARSTRUCT Conference was organised in Glasgow aiming at serving the community at large and thus not limited to the project participants. In fact, the international nature of the interest in Marine Structures and the absence of a series of Conferences specifically dedicated to Marine Structures was determinant in the decision to promote this as regular series of events.

The first Conference was a success, bringing together 61 papers from authors of 20 countries, several of which outside Europe. The Proceedings have been published by Taylor & Francis in the book “Advancements in Marine Structures”.

This second edition of the Conference aims at building on the first one and expanding it to a wider community interested in the various aspects related with Marine Structures, keeping a good standard of the proceedings which will be printed in books of established publishers to ensure that the papers presented will be archived in an easily accessible medium.

The full papers have been peer reviewed before acceptance, aiming at quality of the final publication, which is becoming a requirement for publications to be properly considered in the academic and research community. This Conference will rely on its Committees to be main contributing body to the review process and acceptance of the papers.
