International Congress of International
Maritime Association of the Mediterranean
It is nearly 27 years since the first Congress of the International Maritime
Association of East Mediterranean (IMAEM) held in Istanbul in 1978. The
International Maritime Association of East Mediterranean is a voluntary
organization that was established by six countries Bulgaria, Egypt, Greece,
Italy, Yugoslavia and Turkey in 1974. Each of the following IMAEM Congresses
held every 3 years:
• 1st in Istanbul in 1978
• 2nd in Trieste, Italy in 1981,
• 3rd in Athens, Greece in 1984,
• 4th in Varna, Bulgaria in 1987
• 5th in Athens, Greece in 1990.
After the conference in Greece the name of the international congress was
changed to International Congress of International Maritime Association of the
Mediterranean (IMAM) and his mission has been continued as following:
• 6th in Varna, Bulgaria, in 1993
• 7th in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in 1995
• 8th in Istanbul, Turkey, 1997
• 9th in Ischia, Italy, 2000
• 10th in Crete, Greece, 2002
• 11th in Lisbon, Portugal, 2005
