The principal aim of this workpackage spatially and temporally high-resolution meteorological forcing data to be used as input data in workpackages 2 and 3. Existing meteorological data for the North Sea will be made available in order to transform atmospheric data into a format that the models in WP2 and WP3 can easily assimilate.

Regional climate models will be developed, set-up and tested for the Irish Sea, NorthEast Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. For each of these three areas, production of an initial 5-year data set will be carried out so that verification of the model output can be analysed. It is intended that data sets of 40-year atmospheric hindcast will be produced for the Irish Sea, NorthEast Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea.
